Magellan - ABA Clinic
Autism spectrum disorder affects 1 out of 59 boys and girls in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is known as a “spectrum” disorder because the condition presents a wide variety of challenges and strengths. It is believed to be caused by environmental influences and genetics. Generally, symptoms start to present themselves when a child is between 2 and 3 years old.
Magellan in Houston, TX, addresses this issue with Applied Behavior Analysis at ABA Therapy for Life. This therapy consists of techniques that reduce the instances of problematic behaviors at the same time that it increases your child’s skills. For example, your child’s Board Certified Behavior Analyst or BCBA will target his tantrums in order to reduce the behavior.
ABA Therapy for Life
ABA Therapy for Life is different from many other treatments for autism. Special attention has been paid to the environment in which your child will learn, and it is a place that is very nurturing and without stress. A team of therapists is always present. A therapist develops a treatment plan and a behavioral intervention plan for your child, and they are periodically updated as she progresses in the program. Parents are fully aware of what is contained within these plans. On a day to day basis, your child works with her own Registered Behavior Technician or RBT. This ensures that she has the full attention of one RBT at all times.
Parents are also encouraged to remain heavily involved in the learning process. As the treatment plans and behavioral intervention plans are updated, the BCBA meets with you to ensure that you know everything that is going on. They also provide you with parent and family training on a weekly basis.
The therapy children receive is administered directly by an RBT, and a BCBA supervises this training at all times. Your child will never be placed in a group with other children.
Magellan in Houston, TX, has cultivated a team that dedicates itself entirely to autism. Children attend Applied Behavioral Analysis for Life Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Those who are in school can also receive Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy to help them with their social skills and language skills after school from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
After you are introduced to the facility, Magellan will give authorization for your child to receive a behavior and initial skills assessment. Then, your child will be able to meet with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst for an assessment.
